There is a time period between the beginning of March and the beginning of May during which we would all like to be frolicking around in shorts and a t shirt, like that idiot you always see strolling down the street on the first 45 degree day in his khaki shorts, flip flops and University of Fill in the Blank sweatshirt. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for us, we have sense enough to begrudgingly pull out our spring coat to tide us over until the temperature finally starts with a digit greater than the number of Vodka Crans we sip on a Saturday night. BUT, this year, before throwing in the towel, I decided to keep my eyes peeled for a perfect spring jacket to help me pass the time until tank top weather. And, to my delight, I found that this year CAN be different thanks to the breathtaking design of the Burberry Porsum Silk Duchess Epaulette Trench Coat. It is truly a thing of beauty that would make any owner want Spring coat season to last forever.
However, after seeing the trench retailing at $2795.00 (that is probably why the model couldn’t afford pants to wear with it), I sadly resigned myself to the fact that I would be, once again, pull out my boring old battered and bruised H&M trench to get me through the early spring. Then it came to me, as strategy often comes to people during times of crisis. I needed to do what I do best…set my sites on finding the perfect knockoff. Having perfected this craft in my college days dodging in and out of hidden back rooms on Canal Street seeking that perfect LV handbag and sifting through vendors in Hong Kong featured on sites like iOffer (if you want any sort of knockoff they somehow are still selling extremely authentic looking replicas, although the cops probably show up at your door the minute you click “Buy” these days), I knew I could do it.
After searching long and hard I almost said “uncle”, thinking that the clothing lines hadn’t had the foresight to knock this one off yet (You can knock off Crocs in a millisecond, but not this???). And then, as I was about to give up hope, the clouds parted, the sun shined in, and I swear I heard the chorus to hallelujah. I had found it.
The Lipsy Ruched Shoulder Mac was my answer. This UK brand was smart enough to hop on board and design a style similar to the Burberry creation. This style, selling for around $120 US dollars, sells in the same pale pink as its inspiration, along with a shade of grey. It is very tough to find it in stock, but I managed to track it down in Cool Grey at http://www.sendit.com/10079000.html . Success!
See my friends, dreams can come true. Let me story be an inspiration to you…And to sportin’ a slammin’ Spring wardrobe!
