Lauren Loves: A Lesson in Layering A Graphic Tee & Leggings
Preface: If you’re confused by my tee…It’s Lagerfeld, and it’s a chic find for any true fashion lover in your life.
As a Chicago fashion blogger, or resident, you are pretty much screwed fashion-wise by the time the holidays are over. It’s totally freezing outside and the excitement of new holiday dresses, sequins and fur have worn off. So that’s when it’s time to get creative by taking pieces that you’ve worn during previous seasons and creating new looks, because who really wants to spend you’re cash on another sweater?!
So a lesson is layering is the total inspo for this look. While I did buy a couple chunky sweaters this winter to wear (which I hate) over leather leggings, I totally prefer wearing a blazer over a cardigan or sweater. Instead of looking frumpy, you always look a little dressed up, even if you’ve got a casual tee underneath.
For this look, I steered away from my go-to black leather leggings because every other component of the look was black, and I knew I wanted to wear my Kardashian-inspired Karl is My Father Tee from my collabo with T+J Designs. I’ve had these leggings for like 5 years, but unless the rest of the look is pretty neutral, they can look ridiculous. Fortunately, they were just the right addition to turn this outfit from boring to noteworthy. They’re a little thin, so I was thankful that my OTK boots provided extra coverage, along with my longer blazer that provides coverage, and cuts in at just the right place and is just like the right length to take pounds off my hips.
I topped it off with my fave sunnies, thick chain necklace and chain strap bag and got a new look without spending and extra dime, or adding extra pounds with chunky winter pieces.
